Angeles Samaritan Mission

The Angeles Samaritan Mission was established in 2004 by Young Jin and Jung Gil Choi to support missions, both locally and globally. Upon the request of Young Choi before her passing away in 2006, all gifts from her funeral were donated to the Angeles Samaritan Fund to expand the work of this 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.  The primary types of missions work supported are:

Overseas missions to Malaysia:

Paul Jung Choi has been serving the Orang Asli people of Malaysia since 2013. The Orang Asli are the oldest and indigenous inhabitants of Malaysia. Although Malaysia is primarily a Muslim country, the Orang Asli have religious freedom to choose their religion. The Orang Asli are also some of the poorest people of Malaysia, mostly living in rural areas with limited opportunities for education and work. God has used Paul to train 30 local pastors, plant 6 churches (total attendance of 500+) and bring 100+ Orang Asli to Christ. Paul has been primarily self-sufficient funding his living and ministry expenses, but plans to retire within the next 2 years.

Young Jin Choi Memorial Scholarship:

Young Jin and Jung Gil believed in the importance of education and were always generous in giving. In that spirit, this $5,000/semester matching scholarship will be given to a seminarian with a vision for overseas missions since many are prevented from going abroad sooner due to school debt, especially those with families. This matching scholarship will allow supporters of the seminarian to donate tax-deductible gifts to raise an additional $5000/semester.  By raising support early on, this would allow the seminarian to share vision, updates, and prayer requests to supporters during these preparation years before the call to go overseas to share the gospel.

Pastoral Development in Southeast Asia:

We are partnering with Missionaries Paul and Susan Lee, the first recipients of our seminarian scholarship in 2006.  Paul currently leads Southeast Asia for Mission to the World (the missions organization for the PCA denomination). We support a March Pastors Conference in Vietnam for 50 pastors. This number may vary as sometimes local police will disallow them to attend. The cost to provide transportation, housing, and other expenses is $5,000.

Timeline

Learn about the Angeles Samaritan Mission and explore key moments from the Foundation's history.

  • The Angeles Samaritan Mission was established by Young Jin and Jung Gil Choi.
  • Young Jin Choi passed away from breast cancer. Upon her request, all gifts from her funeral were donated to the Angeles Samaritan Fund to expand the work of this 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. $30,000 was raised.
  • The Young Jin Choi Memorial Scholarship was established. Paul Lee, Westminster Seminary missions student, received a matching $5,000/semester Young Jin Choi Memorial scholarship starting in the fall of 2006 and ending in the spring of 2008. A total of $20,000 was given from the scholarship and additional $20,000 was raised from matching donations.
  • 2010 Summer:  Paul and Susan Lee went to Cambodia through Mission to the World (MTW) in the summer.
  • After retiring from his CPA firm, Jung Choi attended Youth With A Mission Discipleship Training School (YWAM DTS) in Kona, Hawaii in April. After completion in July, Paul (Jung’s new English name) went for an internship to Penang, Malaysia in August and subsequently was full-time in November.
  •  While serving on the leadership team at the YWAM Penang base, Paul started a church planting ministry for the Orang Asli tribes in the remote area of Kema. This area was far from the YWAM base of Penang, taking more than 4 hours by car and  1 hour by speed boat. Main ministries were evangelism and discipleship training for this new church. The Kema church was established with a 70 member congregation. However, due to government restrictions and a serious car accident, this ministry stopped.
  • Paul left the YWAM Penang base to move to the mountain area of the Orang Asli tribes to join the Tribes Pastors Team for the church planting and ministry opportunities to more tribes.

Currently Paul Choi is living in Kampar City, 2 hours north of Kuala Lumpur, the capital of Malaysia.  Kampar City is the center of tribes churches and where EPAC (Emanuel Praising Anglican Center) is located. Under EPAC, after starting with 4 village churches when Paul joined, currently there are 15 throughout the Kampar mountain area. The EPAC Church has a core team of 3 full time pastors and Paul. 15 other village churches have pastors who have their full-time jobs, but volunteer with a small monthly allowance.

  • Main Ministries of Paul Choi:

    1. Training and discipleship of the local pastors with the Word of God and church planting
    2. Training and discipleship of the youth group for future leaders
    3. Training and discipleship of Sunday School teachers for the children

Together we make hope a reality
