Angeles Samaritan Missions(ASM) Summer Update

Dear Friends,

As 2024 comes to a close and we are preparing to celebrate the birth of our Savior, we hope you had a great year as well! Angeles Samaritan Mission is thankful for a wonderful year of blessings partnering with you. Highlights include:

1st ASM Fundraising Dinner

60 of us gathered in April to raise $47,000 to fund projects such as purchasing a van where the first village church near Kampar, Malaysia was planted, purchasing a new music system and instruments for the expanded Kampar flagship church, restarting the Young Jin Choi Seminarian Scholarship, and providing summer housing in LA for the family of Paul Lee, ASM’s first sent missionary. Save the date for our 2nd Fundraising dinner! It will be April 12th, 2025 again at Yongsusan in Koreatown.

Malaysia Short Term Missions Trips and Ministry Updates

Andrew and I (John) went in June to Kampar, Malaysia, where many of Missionary Paul Jung Choi’s activities take place. We visited the middle school student dorm, the first planted village church, and worshiped at the expanded Kampar flagship church. Berendo Street Baptist Church (BSBC) also sent a short term missions team in September that provided medical services to one of the larger villages. Through outreach activities and evangelism to those receiving medical care, 41 Orang Asli (the oldest and indigenous inhabitants of Malaysia) received Christ! BSBC plans to send a team annually while Missionary Choi continues missions training onsite at the church while he is back in southern California. Angjin and Jungin Lee, a retired couple from BSBC also joined Missionary Choi in Kampar to help with church activities and evangelism. They were inspired by Missionary Choi’s testimony to go forth on the mission field in retirement and plan to stay long term. Lastly, 3 more village house churches were added, making 18 total Orang Asli churches Missionary Choi has planted. Praise God for His faithfulness and sustaining power!

Young Jin Choi Seminarian Scholarship

We have been blessed to have Simeon Nyihemba as our scholarship recipient. While a student at Westminster Theological Seminary California in Escondido, he has been able to continue full time studies, with a long term vision to return to Nigeria to train others in the Gospel. Simeon just started a paid internship as the youth pastor for San Diego Onnuri Church, a branch of the Seoul megachurch with locations throughout the world and a vision for global missions. Onnuri means the Whole World or All Nations in English. Along with our scholarship, this has enabled Simeon to apply for his family’s visa. His wife and two sons have an appointment at the embassy on February 18th. Please join him in prayers that they will have a successful visa interview. During the winter break, he can also finally visit his family, who he hasn’t seen in over a year.

Missionary Paul Lee and Family

We want to continue to partner with Missionary Paul Lee, as he continues to lead Southeast Asia for Mission to the World (the missions organization for the PCA denomination). One way specifically is to support a March Pastors Conference in Vietnam for 50 pastors. This number may vary as sometimes local police will disallow them to attend. The cost to provide transportation, housing, and other expenses is $4,000.

Year End Prayers and Giving

ASM has been truly blessed by God this year and we hope you have been too. As we reflect on this year and prepare to celebrate the greatest gift we have all ever received, we hope you continue to partner with us through prayer and financial support. Below are updated prayer topics and specific immediate financial needs in the upcoming months. Please visit https://angelessamaritanmission.com/give to support with an end-of-the year gift or monthly recurring donation. You can even donate stocks (no capital gains for donor or recipient) if you are interested. Have a great end-of-the year and hope to see you all April 12th, 2025 for our 2nd annual ASM Fundraising Dinner at Yongsusan!
