Angeles Samaritan Missions(ASM) Summer Update

Dear Friends,

Thank you again for your prayers and support! There are some exciting updates from this summer. As a financial update from our April fundraiser, we have raised $47,000, almost reaching our $50,000 goal. Praise God for His faithfulness and your generous donations!

Malaysia Trip

In early June, Andrew and I (John) were able to travel to Malaysia to visit Kampar, where many of Missionary Paul Jung Choi’s activities take place. In Kampar, we visited the six middle school students who are being supported by your generous donations in terms of dorm stay and tutoring fees. We happened to visit at the same time as the Chinese Anglican church from Kuala Lumpur, who is providing the operating and living expenses for the dorm. Together we were all even able to worship together in English by singing “Lord Most High”, one of the songs we sang at our April fundraiser!

Later, we traveled to several Orang Asli villages, including the village where MIssionary Choi planted his first church in this area. We brought a bag of rice for each church member’s family, which lasts for one month. For this village, we decided to get a used van to pick up members and newcomers, since not everyone has transportation to travel to church. Below is the same type of van we were able to provide through your generous donations!

We also had the privilege of worshiping Sunday at the Emmanuel Praising Anglican Center (EPAC) in Kampar. This is the flagship church that has expanded from a 40 person capacity to 100. Initially ASM was going to lend our support for the expansion of this church, but the Chinese Malaysian church graciously decided to fund this. So instead, ASM was able to donate $4,000 for badly needed music equipment, including a new sound system, mics, drum set, acoustic and bass guitars with amps!

Young Jin Choi Seminarian Scholarship

After reaching out to several seminaries and following up with personal referrals, we were able to identify a recipient for our seminarian scholarship. Simeon Nyihemba is a first year student from Nigeria at Westminster Theological Seminary California. He is married and has 2 boys, but due to financial limitations, his family has not been able to come to the United States as of yet and he has not been able to return to Nigeria to visit. Through a Zoom interview, Simeon was able to share with us, that although Christianity is spreading rapidly through the nation, there still is intense persecution, with many being maimed, raped, widowed, orphaned, impoverished, displaced and traumatized due to terrorist activities. His future ministry plan is to return to Nigeria to train others through his seminary education, as he sees great passion for the gospel that often lacks training in the Word of God. We plan to support Simeon at least for the fall semester with a $5,000 matching scholarship and hope to continue for the spring semester and beyond.

Missionary Paul Lee and Family

During Paul, Susan, and their sons Caleb and Nate’s visit to southern California in August, ASM was able to host them for dinner and for a week at an Airbnb in Fullerton. They shared with us how the Gospel was moving in Southeast Asia and of the importance of training local pastors and leaders, particularly in Paul’s work in leading this region for Mission to the World. After being the first recipients of our seminarian scholarship in 2006, we have not been able to do much since. However, we are excited to find ways to partner with them going forward. One way is to support a spring conference in Vietnam for local pastors and leaders, which supports one of the pillars of ASM, which is to Preach and Teach the Gospel. The cost to provide transportation, housing, and the costs of the conference is $3,000.

If you are interested in partnering with us, please visit angelessamaritanmission.com for either a one-time or monthly recurring donation. Please continue to pray with us on the below topics.
